Then, the COVID-19 pandemic hit along with a statewide suspension of all tattooing operations. Sandra then began to draft a plan to create a space, not just for Sandra’s work, but one where multiple artists could come together to create. This vision was realized in the new location off of 285 and Wadsworth in Lakewood, Colorado. The space currently has six tattoo artists, two piercers, and a Reiki Master Teacher. After graduating high school, she moved to Denver to attend college where she received a degree in psychology and human growth and development. Sabrina started her tattoo career close to 16 years ago, apprenticing at a shop in southern Colorado, and then moving onto being an artist at shops in Colorado. She spent a short time in California as well. Sabrina has been tattooing in southern Colorado full time for the past seven years and just moved to Denver to join the Disruptive Ink Tattoo team. Before she dived into the world of tattooing, she was a commercial truck driver for six years. Melissa states that it is her freedom and love for art as well as the ability to do something she loves and share it with others that drew her to tattooing. Outside the shop, she enjoys spending time with her pups, doing anything in the mountains, and cheese. She was born in North Carolina and raised in Aurora, Colorado. She got her start in tattooing after much encouragement from her family, especially her Uncle, who was her original mentor. According to Sandra, “The second I put needle to skin, I was like… yes. This is what I want to do the rest of my life!” She has been a tattoo artist since 2016. Outside of the shop, she enjoys camping, being outdoors, hanging with her family, painting, and doing murals. Something interesting about Sandra is that she is a huge Dolly Parton fan.
